May 2, 2025

International Women’s Day (IWD) originally was designed to commemorate the progress in assuring gender equality for women. In recent years, however, IWD increasingly has been marked by acts of destruction of property, confrontations with the police, and violence. Following are accounts from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru of the IWD events held on March 8, 2025.

ARGENTINA

During the International Women’s Day marches in Argentina, particularly in Buenos Aires, there were reports of confrontations between protesters and law enforcement. Some demonstrators attempted to breach security barriers near the Casa Rosada, leading to police responses involving tear gas and rubber bullets. These actions resulted in multiple injuries and detentions.

In Córdoba, similar incidents occurred when protesters clashed with police forces, leading to several arrests. (1)

Destruction of Public Property

There were multiple instances of damage of public property : (2)

  • Buenos Aires: Monuments, public furniture, and transportation stations were damaged.
  • Mendoza: Protesters set fire to garbage containers and broke windows of government buildings.
  • Rosario: Looting of shops and destruction in public areas were reported.

Nearly 300 Federal Police officers were deployed around the protest, which many protestors interpreted as an act of intimidation and repression. (3)

CHILE

On March 8, 2025, Chile witnessed significant unrest during International Women’s Day, particularly in the capitol city Santiago, where peaceful demonstrations escalated into violent confrontations.

Santiago

After the conclusion of the 8M march in Santiago, groups of masked individuals ignited barricades along the Alameda, between Lord Cochrane and Los Héroes. These individuals threw objects at Carabineros (Chilean police), prompting the use of water cannons to disperse the crowd. The situation disrupted traffic and public transportation in the city center. (1)

Police actions:

Chile’s national police, the Carabineros, implemented a security operation during the event. According to Colonel Estrella Sotelo, 13 people were detained: six due to outstanding arrest warrants, one for drug dealing, one for concealing identity and carrying a bladed weapon, and three for public disorder. One woman was injured by glass from a thrown bottle and was taken to the Ex Posta Central hospital.

Vesna Madariaga, spokesperson for Coordinadora 8M, explained the rationale for the demonstration, saying, “We gather to defend our rights.” Earlier that day, President Gabriel Boric and Minister for Women and Gender Equality Antonia Orellana led a commemorative event in Quinta Normal, featuring a performance by singer Myriam Hernández. COLOMBIA

What began as a peaceful demonstration to commemorate International Women’s Day in Bogotá, escalated into violent incidents and acts of vandalism in several parts of the city (1).

 Timeline of Events

  • Start of the march: The main protest began around 3:00 p.m. at the mural “Las cuchas tienen razón” (Calle 45 with Carrera 7), and proceeded toward the Plaza of the Bogotá City Council.
  • Peaceful development: For several hours, the march remained peaceful, with thousands of women chanting slogans and carrying banners in defense of women’s rights.
  • Escalation of violence: Around 6:00 p.m., reports emerged of vandalism in various areas of the city. Groups of masked individuals damaged businesses and public infrastructure.

Infrastructure Damage and Mobility Disruptions

  • TransMilenio: The TransMilenio public transport system was one of the most heavily affected, with damages estimated at 77 million Colombian pesos. These damages included broken windows, graffiti, and vandalism at stations such as Museo del Oro, San Diego, and Calle 34. Additionally, four buses were vandalized with paint: two trunk-line buses, one dual-mode, and one zonal.
In total, 41 TransMilenio routes and 148 zonal routes were affected, impacting over 540,000 users (2).
  • Main roads: Protests caused major traffic disruptions. Road closures and gridlocks were reported at key locations such as Calle 26 with Carrera 5, Carrera 7 with Calle 45 and 72, and Avenida Caracas with Calle 76 South (1).

Additional Incidents:

  • Intervention of the Luis Carlos Galán statue: During the protests, the statue of Luis Carlos Galán was intervened by protesters. While some city council members expressed their support for the feminist movement, they condemned the damage to public property and called for the identification of those responsible for the violent acts. The statue, located in the Plaza de Bolívar, was covered with slogans in support of women’s rights and against violence, drawing mixed reactions from political leaders. (3)
  • Vandalism at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: In addition to other acts of vandalism, a group of masked women attacked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building. They spray-painted slogans on the walls and caused significant damage to the property. The building was surrounded by law enforcement as protesters clashed with the police. Although the majority of the protesters remained peaceful, this group was among the most aggressive during the afternoon. (4)

MEXICO

On March 8, 2025, Mexico City witnessed one of the largest feminist demonstrations in recent history. Over 200,000 women gathered in the city’s center to mark International Women’s Day, demanding justice, gender equality, and an end to domestic violence.

While the Mexico City march was often peaceful, protests in other states escalated, with notable acts of civil unrest: (1)

  • Puebla: Protesters set fire to offices of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Gender Violence Crimes.
  • Guanajuato: Fires broke out at the León Municipal Presidency and State Congress buildings.
  • State of Mexico: Demonstrators attempted to dismantle barricades near the State Attorney General’s Office.
  • Sonora: Protesters set fire to windows of the Federal Judiciary building.

Vandalism of Religious Sites

Several Catholic cathedrals and churches across Mexico were targeted during the marches (2):

Guadalajara, Jalisco:

  • The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of Most Holy Mary, located in the heart of Guadalajara, was one of the most prominent religious sites affected. Protesters spray-painted messages on the building’s facade, including “Abort the Church and “The Church is Misogyny”. These slogans are linked to the pro-abortion movement and critiques of the Catholic Church’s stance on women’s rights and reproductive health.
  • Several statues inside and outside the cathedral were defaced, some with red paint resembling blood, symbolizing the movement against femicides and violence against women. This act of vandalism was seen as a direct response to the Church’s influence on politics regarding reproductive rights and women’s autonomy.
  • Public Reaction: The archbishop of Guadalajara, Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega, condemned the acts of violence, calling for peaceful dialogue, while some local residents expressed both support for the protesters’ rights and concern about the desecration of religious sites.

Toluca, State of Mexico:

  • In Toluca, the San José Cathedral was targeted by protesters who draped green cloths, symbolizing the abortion rights movement, over the cathedral gates. In addition, several statues of saints were vandalized with spray paint, leaving them disfigured. One of the most notable damages was to the statue of Saint Joseph, which was completely defaced with red paint.
  • Public Reaction: The local authorities responded by adding extra security to prevent further destruction. While some activists saw the act as a necessary protest against the Church’s political influence, others believed the violence was an unjustified attack on religious freedom. Local religious leaders called for unity and peace despite their disagreement with the protest’s methods.

Cuernavaca, Morelos:

  • At the Cuernavaca Cathedral, protesters attempted to dismantle protective fencing set up around the building. They sprayed several messages, including “The Church is Guilty” and “Feminist Justice”, across the cathedral’s front steps. Though the police intervened quickly, there was some physical altercation between protesters and law enforcement, resulting in minor injuries.
  • Public Reaction: The attack on the cathedral sparked a larger debate in Cuernavaca about whether the destruction of religious property is justified in the fight for women’s rights. Some local Catholic groups expressed outrage, while others remained sympathetic to the protesters’ cause. The national debate intensified, with many questioning how to balance freedom of expression with respect for religious institutions.

Oaxaca City, Oaxaca:

  • In Oaxaca City, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption was heavily targeted during the marches. Protesters sprayed “Church, Stop Abusing Women” and “Feminist Struggle” in large letters on the cathedral’s stone façade. In a more extreme act, several participants attempted to set fire to the cathedral’s wooden doors, though the fire was quickly extinguished by a combination of firemen and volunteers from the community.
  • Several statues inside the cathedral were also vandalized. The most significant damage occurred to the Statue of Our Lady of the Assumption, which had its face covered with a green cloth and was doused in red paint.
  • Public Reaction: Local government officials expressed concern about the escalation of violence in Oaxaca. Religious leaders, including the Bishop of Oaxaca, Pedro Vázquez Villalobos, condemned the act of violence but emphasized the need to understand the frustration driving such extreme actions. There was a strong public outcry from both the Catholic community and the general public, calling for peace and dialogue.

San Luis Potosí:

  • The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Expectation in San Luis Potosí was another religious site that faced significant damage. Protesters spray-painted slogans like “Patriarchy is a Death Sentence” on the cathedral’s main doors. The historic building also suffered from broken windows and other structural damage caused by direct hits from objects thrown by the protesters.
  • Public Reaction: In San Luis Potosí, some residents staged counter-protests, calling for an end to the destruction of religious and public property. Despite these protests, the local police force reported that no arrests were made during the incident. Both the local community and national media have closely followed the controversy surrounding these actions.

PERU

On International Women’s Day 2025, thousands of women took to the streets across Peru, particularly in Lima, to demand gender equality, an end to violence against women, and better working conditions.

Incidents in Lima

  • In downtown Lima, the main protest headed toward Plaza San Martín, a traditional rallying point.
  • The Peruvian National Police (PNP) blocked access to the plaza, sparking tension between demonstrators and officers.
  • When protestors attempted to enter, clashes broke out. The police reportedly used pepper spray and physical force, causing panic and confusion.
  • Some women, including rural and Indigenous activists, were repressed by force, according to images and testimonies circulated online.
  • The plaza’s lights were shut off during the protest, which increased anxiety in the crowd.
  • At least two people were arrested and taken to the Cotabambas police station, according to activist groups.
  • Feminist organizations denounced the excessive use of force and demanded the immediate release of the detained.

Events in Other Cities

  • Demonstrations also occurred in Trujillo, Cusco, Juliaca, Ucayali, Ayacucho, Pucallpa, Acobamba, Tacna, and San Martín.
  • While most of these protests were peaceful, some tensions and confrontations with police were reported in certain areas.
  • In Trujillo, members of the 8 de Marzo feminist collective allegedly burned a symbolic coffin and painted over marble surfaces in the city’s historic Plaza de Armas, sparking concern from local authorities.

Women Not ‘Excluded’ or ‘Underrepresented’ in Medical Research: Report

PRESS RELEASE

Women Not ‘Excluded’ or ‘Underrepresented’ in Medical Research: Report

WASHINGTON / April 30, 2025 – A new report reveals that women were not “underrepresented” or “excluded” from medical research in previous years. The document refutes the claim that is used the justify the existence of seven offices of women’s health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (1).

The report, authored by James Nuzzo, PhD, concludes that over the past 28 years, women represented 58% of all participants in NIH-funded research (2).

The document also highlights an Inclusion Statistics Report that analyzes NIH-funded research on a disease-specific basis (3). This Inclusion Report again demonstrates that for a majority of conditions, the participants are more likely to be female than male. For example, NIH studies on Coronaviruses are composed of 54% females and 43% males.

A 2001 GAO report revealed, “GAO found that women were a majority of the clinical trial participants in the new drug applications (NDA) it examined, and that every NDA included enough women in the pivotal studies to be able to statistically demonstrate that the drug is effective in women.” (4) A previous peer-reviewed article that examined sex-specific research participation as early as 1966 affirmed the same conclusion (5).

The conclusive Nuzzo review also links to a previous analysis that reveals that each year, 14% of the NIH research budget is allocated to women’s health, while only 6% goes for men’s health (6). The remainder of NIH research funding goes for research that is not sex-specific. Men have an average lifespan that is 5.4 years shorter than women’s (7), a statistic that underscores the irony of the chronic underfunding of men’s health research.

The analysis also lists media channels that have repeated the shibboleth that women were shortchanged by medical research. These media outlets include the Washington Post, Forbes Magazine, Inside Higher Ed, and Time magazine.

Nuzzo concludes, “The broad claim that women have been historically ‘understudied’ or ‘underrepresented’ in medical research is false….With this array of raw source documents now collated in one place, there is no excuse for academics, professional societies, journalists, and politicians to continue to propagate the myth that women have been ‘understudied’ or ‘underrepresented’ in medical research.”

The absence of a single office of men’s health is an affront to fairness and common sense. SAVE invites lawmakers to reach out to DHHS Secretary Kennedy and urge him to assure that men’s health receives equal priority as women’s health.

Seventeen Organizations Call on Congress to Cut Budget for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)

PRESS RELEASE

Contact: Robert D. Thompson

Seventeen Organizations Call on Congress to Cut Budget for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)

April 23, 2025 / WASHINGTON — Seventeen national organizations have sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee in Congress calling for changes to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in the FY2026 Federal budget (1) and (2).

According to the Centers for Disease Control, each year there are 6.5 million male victims and 5.9 million female victims of domestic violence (3).

One of its largest VAWA programs is the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant program, which each year awards over $170 million to states. It allocates the funding in this way: (4)

  • 25 percent for law enforcement
  • 25 percent for prosecutors
  • 30 percent for victim services
  • 5 percent to state and local courts

The 17 organizations called upon the House Appropriations Committee to reduce the funding for this Grant Program, as part of its Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriation bill. These reductions are essential to curb federally funded programs that are wasteful, harmful, and violate the Fourteenth Amendment which promises equal treatment under law to all citizens.

They are requesting a 50% reduction to $85 million annually in funding until the following problems areas are resolved.

  1. Domestic violence programs openly discriminate against male victims: (5) Only 9% of victims served under VAWA are male: (6)
  2. Biased training of police results in 80% of DV arrestees being male: (7)
  3. Prosecutors are less vigorous in their prosecution of women accused of domestic violence: (8)
  4. Biased training of judges has undermined the principle of “equal justice under law.” (9)

The 50% reduction is appropriate, given the fact that men, who represent over half of all domestic violence victims, are largely ignored by VAWA funded programs and services.

In addition, the American Bar Association recently announced that the Trump administration is terminating all of their grants received from the DOJ’s Office of Violence Against Women. (10)

SAVE – Stop Abusive and Violent Environments – is a 501(c)3 organization working to assure due process, fairness, and equal opportunities for men.

Transgender Ideology Being Used to Remove Children from Their Fathers

April 16, 2025 / WASHINGTON — The U.S. Constitution affirms the fundamental right of parents to make decisions about their own child’s education, healthcare, and religious upbringing. But this right is now being threatened by state agencies and courts throughout the country, thanks to a wave of transgender activism. (1)

These are examples in which parents have lost their children through the court system:

  • Jeff Younger, a Texas father, lost his years-long battle in the courts to keep his ex-wife from allowing their pre-teen son, who identifies as a girl named “Luna,” to receive gender-affirming care. (2)
  • Dennis Hannon, a New York father — – thanks to a decision by the Erie County Supreme Court — lost all parental rights except for visitation rights to see his nine-year-old son, who had been living as a girl on the days he stayed with Hannon’s ex-wife. (3)
  • Jeremy and Mary Cox, an Indiana couple, lost custody of their trans teen when the Department of Child Services recommended to a County Judge that the teen be placed in a home that “affirms her identity.” (4)

On the state level, the Colorado legislature is currently considering HB25-1312, ‘Legal Protections for Transgender Individuals.’ This bill allows one parent to declare that their child is LGBTQ or transgender, and then accuse the other parent of abuse or coercive control simply for disagreeing—even if the child never expressed that identity themselves. (5)

To counter this wave of transgender activism, earlier this year, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), introduced the Families’ Rights and Responsibilities Act, (S.204) (6) and (H.R. 650) (7) This legislation would protect the right of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and health care of their children by applying the strict scrutiny standard. (8)

Part of the problem lies with public schools that have established transgender policies that serve to keep parents in the dark about their child who is being transitioned:

  • Illinois: Community Unit School District 300 uses a gender support plan that states the gender identity of students can be hidden from parents. (9)
  • Washington: Cheney Public Schools has a policy that states the gender identity of students should be hidden from parents. (10)

SAVE calls upon Congress to swiftly pass the Families’ Rights and Responsibilities Act.

Sea Change as Lawmakers Set Out to Remedy Disparities Affecting Men

Sea Change as Lawmakers Set Out to Remedy Disparities Affecting Men

WASHINGTON / April 9 – The debate surrounding gender issues has undergone a sea change in recent months as lawmakers are now speaking out on the disparities affecting men. The sea change traces back to November 5, 2024 when millions of White, Hispanic, and Black men voted for presidential candidate Donald Trump, thereby reshaping the political landscape (1).

Previously, persons had assumed that men were the “winners” on the full range of gender issues. But a recently published analysis identifies 12 areas in which men are substantially lagging behind women. These disparities include lower enrollment in higher education, five-year shorter life span, dramatically higher rates of homelessness, and nine other areas (2).

Last month the International Council for Men and Boys released a historic New York Declaration for Men and Boys, designed to galvanize global attention about the pressing needs facing men (3).

Both Democratic and Republican leaders have become actively engaged in this debate. In the past month:

  • On March 20, Republican Secretary of Education Linda McMahon commented, “Education, originally, begins in the home with the nuclear family…We got a fatherless crisis going on in this country. Far too many kids are growing up without a father, and all the statistics show that kids who grow up with a father in the home perform better in education.” (4)
  • Four days later, NBC News published an article titled, “The Plight of Boys and Men, Once Sidelined by Democrats, Is Now a Priority.” (5) The commentary highlighted statements made by Democratic governors Wes Moore of Maryland, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Ned Lamont of Connecticut that are supportive of men and fathers.

Women also are supportive of establishing male-specific programs. A recent YouGov survey found that 73% of female respondents agreed that society should invest in addressing the societal challenges that men face, such as higher rates of suicide, homelessness, and work fatalities (6).

University of Virginia Professor Brad Wilcox recently revealed, “Our research at the Institute for Family Studies has demonstrated the catastrophic social consequences of absentee fatherhood and family breakdown.” (7)

In response, bills designed to promote and celebrate fatherhood currently are being debated in state legislatures around the country:

  • Missouri HB927
  • Missouri HB1441
  • Missouri HB380
  • Missouri SB262
  • New York A01211
  • New York A07035
  • North Carolina HB 780
  • Tennessee HB1131
  • Texas HB3784
  • Texas HCR16

More information about each of these bills is available online (8).

SAVE encourages state lawmakers to sponsor, support, and enact bills designed to address the disparities affecting men and fathers.

State Bills to Strengthen and Celebrate Fathers

State Bills Designed to Strengthen and Celebrate Fathers

SAVE

April 7, 2025

The following 10 bills, designed to strengthen and celebrate fathers, have been introduced in five states around the United States:

Missouri HB927

Establishes provisions relating to fathership:

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1785825/43389

This bill establishes two key initiatives related to fatherhood in Missouri: first, it designates June as “Fathership Month” to raise awareness about fathers’ importance in children’s lives. More substantively, the bill creates the “Missouri Fathership Project” within the Department of Social Services, which includes a grant program to support agencies and organizations that help fathers reconnect with and support their children. The project aims to empower fathers by helping them build life skills, improve self-esteem, and overcome barriers to family reunification. Agencies receiving grants will hire “fathership project specialists” who serve as one-on-one contacts for fathers seeking to reestablish relationships with their children, acting as liaisons with state agencies and helping fathers develop personalized plans to maintain connections with their kids. The bill establishes a dedicated state treasury fund to support these grants, requires annual reporting on project outcomes, and mandates that the Department of Social Services develop performance metrics to measure the project’s success in improving father involvement and case plan completion.

Missouri HB1441

Establishes provisions relating to duties of the department of social services

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1844913/43389

This bill establishes new reporting requirements and creates an Office of Fatherhood within the Department of Social Services aimed at supporting two-parent families and fathers. The bill mandates annual reports to the General Assembly and Governor starting December 1, 2026, covering multiple areas: actions taken to implement the fourth goal of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program related to two-parent family formation, interdepartmental coordination to identify policies that impact two-parent families, and an analysis of child support guidelines and their potential negative consequences. The bill also establishes an Office of Fatherhood within the department, led by an assistant director, tasked with promoting father-supportive measures across state and local governments. The office will assess government programs’ impact on fatherhood, produce annual reports, and identify barriers to father participation. Additionally, the bill requires the department to partner with organizations to offer grants for programs promoting two-parent family formation, including marriage education, counseling, mediation, and public awareness campaigns. The legislation aims to encourage two-parent family stability by examining and potentially reforming policies that might inadvertently discourage or complicate family maintenance, with a particular focus on supporting fathers and their relationships with children.

Missouri HB380

Modifies provisions relating to the custody and support of children

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1755884/43384

This bill modifies Missouri’s laws regarding child custody, support, and visitation, with several key provisions. The bill establishes a rebuttable presumption that equal or approximately equal parenting time is in the best interests of the child, requiring courts to consider specific factors when determining custody arrangements. It expands child support obligations, allowing support to continue until a child is 22 if they are enrolled in secondary or higher education, with specific requirements for maintaining eligibility. The bill introduces new provisions regarding termination of child support, including automatic termination under certain circumstances and processes for ending support through sworn statements. The legislation also strengthens protections for children by restricting custody and visitation rights for parents convicted of certain offenses involving children and emphasizes the importance of maintaining meaningful contact between children and both parents. Additionally, the bill adds a new provision that a parent who has not maintained contact with a child for six years or more may lose visitation rights. The overall aim is to create more comprehensive and flexible guidelines for child custody, support, and visitation that prioritize the child’s best interests while ensuring both parents have opportunities for meaningful involvement in their child’s life.

Missouri SB262

Modifies provisions relating to child custody

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1755379/43353

This bill modifies Missouri’s laws relating to child custody, support, and guardianship, with several key provisions. It establishes a rebuttable presumption that equal parenting time is in the best interest of the child, meaning courts should default to shared custody unless specific evidence suggests otherwise. The bill expands requirements for notifying parents about potential custody transfers, relocation, or changes in a child’s residence, including mandatory notification to relatives and interested parties. It provides more detailed guidelines for terminating child support obligations, such as when a child reaches certain age milestones or becomes self-supporting. The legislation also strengthens protections for children by restricting custody for parents convicted of certain child-related criminal offenses and mandates more comprehensive reporting about a child’s living history and potential custody proceedings. Additionally, the bill clarifies procedures for third-party custody and guardianship, prioritizing relatives and establishing more transparent intervention rights for interested parties. The overall intent appears to be creating more comprehensive, transparent, and child-focused processes for managing custody, support, and guardianship arrangements, with an emphasis on maintaining meaningful relationships between children and parents while ensuring child safety.

New York A01211

Directs the office of children and family services to establish a center for fatherhood initiatives to issue grants to any and all initiatives regarding the promotion and advancement of fatherhood, including but not limited to all marginalized fatherhood groups to help expand opportunities to improve parenting knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1771543/43389

This bill directs the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to establish a Center for Fatherhood Initiatives, which will have the primary responsibility of issuing grants to support various fatherhood-related programs. Specifically, the center will focus on promoting and advancing fatherhood initiatives, with a particular emphasis on marginalized fatherhood groups. The grants are intended to help expand opportunities that improve fathers’ parenting knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy. The bill requires the OCFS commissioner to develop and implement the necessary rules and regulations for creating, operating, and maintaining the center. By establishing this dedicated center, the bill aims to provide targeted support to fathers across different communities, recognizing the important role fathers play in child development and family dynamics. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage, allowing for prompt implementation of the new fatherhood initiatives center.

New York A07035

Establishes the office of black male excellence to analyze and provide recommendations regarding issues relating to black males including education, criminal justice, health, mental health, economic opportunity, employment, fatherhood, mentorship, violence, public safety, and quality of life.

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1872359/43389

This bill establishes the Office of Black Male Excellence within the executive department of New York state, to be led by a director appointed by the governor. The office’s primary mission is to comprehensively analyze and provide recommendations on critical issues affecting Black males, including education, criminal justice, health, mental health, economic opportunity, employment, fatherhood, mentorship, violence, public safety, and quality of life. The director will be responsible for appointing staff, serving as a liaison to other state agencies and the public, and submitting an annual report by January 31st to the governor, senate president, and assembly speaker. The annual report must detail the office’s analyses, recommendations, interactions with individuals (disaggregated by demographics and geography), programs offered, and suggestions for improving state and municipal services. The bill specifically requires that the recommendations acknowledge any inequities Black males experience in these various areas, with the goal of addressing systemic challenges and improving outcomes for Black males in New York state. The legislation will take effect immediately upon passage.

North Carolina HB 780

HB 780, sponsored primarily by Representative Brenden Jones, aims to “empower North Carolina fathers by funding pro-father organizations like All Pro Dad.” The intent, as expressed in public statements, is to strengthen families, schools, and communities by supporting fathers’ roles, based on the premise that children with involved fathers tend to have better outcomes.

Tennessee HB1131

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4; Title 8; Title 33; Title 34; Title 36; Title 37; Title 41; Title 49; Title 68 and Title 71, relative to children.

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1821054/43354

This is an equal shared parenting bill.

Texas HB3784

Relating to the creation of the Texas Commission for Boys and Men.

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1853998/43389

This bill creates the Texas Commission for Boys and Men, a temporary commission designed to study and address challenges facing boys, male youth, and men in Texas. The commission will consist of 11 members (5 appointed by the governor, 3 by the lieutenant governor, and 3 by the speaker of the house), with members having expertise in areas like economics, education, criminal justice, and mental health. The commission is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study examining issues affecting males, including marriage, family stability, education, workforce participation, health, criminal justice involvement, substance abuse, and death rates. Members will evaluate existing state laws and regulations to identify those potentially hindering male prosperity and develop recommendations for improving outcomes. By November 1, 2026, the commission must publish its study and submit specific policy recommendations to state leadership aimed at promoting male well-being and advancing what the bill describes as “traditional, positive manhood.” The commission will operate without compensation for its members and is set to be automatically abolished on December 31, 2026, with the bill taking effect either immediately upon receiving a two-thirds legislative vote or on September 1, 2025, if immediate passage is not achieved.

Texas HCR16

Affirming that fatherhood is essential to the development of all children.

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1751211/43389

That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby (1) affirms the importance of fatherhood in caring for, nurturing, and supporting children throughout their lives

GWU Law Professor Mary Anne Franks Espouses Extremist Views, Urges Violence Against Men

April 3, 2025 / WASHINGTON – Mary Anne Franks is a law professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. (1) In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 25, Franks was asked about an article she recently wrote in the New York University Law Review (2) that made extreme claims which are derogatory to men:

  • “When the Supreme Court declares that there is a constitutional right to armed self-defense in public, it openly embraces and promotes a culture that privileges white men’s ability to terrorize and kill those they perceive as threats.”
  • “By simultaneously expanding white men’s right to kill and constricting women’s right not to die, this Supreme Court has turned the constitution into a homicide pact, as well.”
  • “Taken together these two cases demonstrate that the Supreme Court has embraced the use of the constitution as a tool of racial patriarchy.”

During the same hearing, Senator John Kennedy inquired about Franks’ tweets on Twitter that expressed her belief in the existence of “white male supremacy,” such as: (3)

  • “There is a reason why the conservative dominated Supreme Court thinks the constitution does not contain a right to an abortion, but is convinced it contains an individual right to possess firearms and that reason is white male supremacy.”

In response, Senator Kennedy commented, “It feels like your favorite feeling is anger.”

Over the years, Mary Anne Franks has published at least two professional articles that openly advocate for vigilante justice against men:

  • “Society would be better off as a whole if more women were willing to engage in justified violence against men… To that end, women’s justified violence against men should be encouraged, protected, and publicized.” — University of Miami School of Law, 2016 (4)
  • “Legal and social practices must be transformed to disrupt this suboptimal status quo regarding violence, and this transformation should include focusing on encouraging women’s willingness and ability to engage in responsive violence against men, as well as raising the visibility of such responsive violence, in order to drive down the incidence of male violence.” University of Illinois Law Review, 2016 (5)

According to its Code of Ethical Conduct, George Washington University “strives to create a positive and ethical environment…The personal actions of each community member should establish and maintain the culture of acceptance and respect for which we strive.” (6)

SAVE urges persons to convey their concerns to the GWU Office of Ethics about Mary Anne Franks’ extreme and misandrous statements: (7) Persons also can convey their concerns directly to Professor Franks: m.franks@law.gwu.edu

DOGE Must Investigate Neglect of Men by the U.S. Department of Labor

PRESS RELEASE

Contact: Robert D. Thompson

1-301-801-0608

Email: info@saveservices.org

DOGE Must Investigate Neglect of Men by the U.S. Department of Labor

April 1, 2025 / WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor, headed by Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, announced last week that the Labor Department has cancelled $577 million in grants, including one $10 million grant to address “gender equity in the Mexican workplace.” (1) The decision is part of the broader effort by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to reduce government waste and fraud in the federal government.(2)

The Department of Labor (DOL) has a long history of addressing women’s issues in the U.S. workforce. In 1921 the Department of Labor established the Women’s Bureau in order to “formulate standards and policies which shall promote the welfare of wage-earning women, improve their working conditions, increase their efficiency, and advance their opportunities for profitable employment.” (3)

In the meantime, the workforce participation of men has witnessed a significant drop in recent decades, falling from about 80% in the 1970s to 69% by 2020. (4) But a search of the DOL website fails to identify any DOL program or office that addresses this decline.

This is exemplified by a December 19, 2024 News Release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that highlights the rate of fatal occupational injuries for women, Hispanics, and African-American workers. (5) Despite the fact that men account for 91.5% of all occupational deaths, the DOL News Release makes no mention of this disturbing fact.

Indeed, the DOL has long neglected the challenges facing men in the workplace. Historically, workplace mortality has disproportionately affected men, with men accounting for over 90% of fatal work injuries. This fact is evident across various industries and time periods.

The Department of Labor also publishes a Databook on Women in the Labor Force. (6) But again, the DOL has no reports on men in the labor force.

SAVE calls upon DOGE to:

  1. Terminate any remaining DEI programs that discriminate against men
  2. Rename the DOL Women’s Bureau to the Bureau for Men and Women, and expand its scope to give at least equal attention to challenges facing men.
  3. Promptly establish programs to address the occupation mortality problem among men, and the declining participation of men in the workforce.

Studies show men have fallen behind women in 12 major areas such as health, education, workplace deaths and injuries, and more. (7)

SAVE – Stop Abusive and Violent Environments – is a 501(c)3 organization working to assure due process, fairness, and equal opportunities for men.
