American Medical Association Passes Resolution to Establish Offices of Men’s Health

WASHINGTON / December 3, 2025 – The American Medical Association has just approved a historic resolution urging states to establish offices of men’s health. The resolution states, “Our AMA encourages the establishment of an Office of Men’s Health within each state’s Department of Health and Human Services to coordinate awareness, outreach, and outcomes on men’s health.” (1)

Previously, the AMA had approved a resolution to create an Office of Men’s Health at the federal level (2).

To date, public health departments in three states have established such programs:

  • Connecticut Department of Public Health – Men’s Health Program (3)
  • Illinois Department of Public Health — Men’s Health Section, opened in 2023 (4)
  • North Dakota Health and Human Services — Men’s Health Program (5)

In 1994, President Bill Clinton signed P.L. 103-268 into law, officially recognizing the week proceeding Father’s Day in June as Men’s Health Week. Subsequently, hundreds of cities, states, and Indian tribes have issued proclamations in support of the observance. (6)

During the past year, men’s health has enjoyed a surge of bipartisan support. In Congress, the Dads Matter Act of 2025 has been introduced both in the Senate (S. 2131) and House (H.R. 5828). In June, President Donald Trump issued a Presidential Message that revealed, “For far too long, the health, happiness, and well-being of our Nation’s men have been neglected, contributing to a troubling reality: men in the United States have a life expectancy five years shorter than women.” (7)

At the state level, both Gov. Gavin Newsom of California (8) and Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland (9) have spoken out passionately about the mental health crisis facing men.

Over the years, males have comprised only 42% of participants in National Institutes of Health research trials (10). Likewise, funding for research on male-specific diseases lags behind funding for female-specific conditions. Each year, 14% of the NIH research budget goes toward women’s health, and only 6% is allocated to men’s health (11)

Men die five years sooner than women, and the suicide rates of men are three times higher than women’s (12). SAVE urges lawmakers to continue to expand our national focus on improving the health of men.

SAVE – Stop Abusive and Violent Environments – is a 501(c)3 organization working to assure due process, fairness, and equal opportunities for men.
