Media and Policy Momentum Builds for Men and Boys

October 1, 2025In a stunning development, media outlets — both liberal and conservative — have begun to address the long-overlooked crisis affecting men and boys. The following stories were published or aired in just the past two weeks:

1. On September 29, Fox News’ Jesse Watters devoted a segment to masculinity, noting that “Americans like watching men be men, competitive, tough, and violent.” Watters also interviewed former White House staffer Edward Coristine, who recounted the night he was brutally beaten while walking his friend back to her car. 2. This past week, President Bill Clinton and California Governor Gavin Newsome appeared on C-SPAN to discuss the crisis of men and boys, among other topics. Newsome emphasized, “Look at every critical category — it’s just blinking red lights” for men. (2)

3. Journalist Lisa Britton published an article on September 24 in the Los Angeles Times that noted, “boys and men are facing crises that have been ignored for too long, and it’s time we extend our empathy to them.” (3).

4. CNN’s Michael Smerconish devoted an entire broadcast to exploring male-specific challenges—including rising suicides, collapsing college enrollment, and the inability to purchase a home—signaling a cultural readiness to address male disadvantage (4).

5. Media commentator Gilda Carle urged viewers to “recognize the emotional and relational needs of boys with the same seriousness we show girls.” She emphasized the importance of male role models, fatherhood involvement, and early childhood support programs tailored to boys’ developmental needs (5).

6. A recent City Journal article warns that core masculine virtues like strength, responsibility, and fatherhood are being eroded by cultural hostility toward masculinity. Reviving these values, it argues, is essential to restoring stability in families and communities (6).

The growing media attention is beginning to translate into policy initiatives. California, Maryland, and Connecticut, have taken groundbreaking actions in recent months. California advanced legislation to better support fathers during custody proceedings. Maryland launched a new initiative addressing male mental health and suicide prevention. Connecticut approved funding to study and address the growing education gap affecting boys (7).

Snowball Effect Following Obama Endorsement of Enhanced Programs for Men and Boys

September 22, 2025 – On July 16, former president Barack Obama spoke out on the need to develop tailored programs for young males. In heartfelt manner, he recounted:

“We rightly have tried to invest in girls to make sure that there’s a level playing field, and they’re not barred from opportunities. But we haven’t been as willing, I think, to be intentional about investing in the boys. And that’s been a mistake. And I think people are starting to recognize that.  … [T]he public at large that’s starting to see like, hey, we gotta do better by our boys.” (1)

Obama’s statement inspired other Democratic leaders to take action.

Two weeks later, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont issued a Proclamation recognizing International Falsely Accused Awareness Day, which took place on September 9. The Proclamation urged reflection on “fairness, truth, and justice in the legal system,” noting that many Americans have experienced or know someone who has experienced a false accusation (2). According to a recent YouGov survey, falsely accused men outnumber falsely accused women by a two-to-one margin (3).

Last Tuesday, September 16, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom established an ambitious and unprecedented California Men’s Service Challenge. The Challenge calls on 10,000 men around California to mentor, coach, and tutor. The Challenge consists of alliances with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Mentor California, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, the Giants Community Fund, and the American Institute for Boys and Men (4).

That very same day, Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland announced $20 million in grants to promote a project to uplift young men and boys, Maryland Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates, and four community colleges to support implementation of the Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) model (5).

Earlier this year, Democratic senators Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Ruben Gallego of Arizona co-sponsored the Dads Matter Act of 2025. (6) In addition, Senator Ted Lieu of California announced his membership in the congressional Men’s Health Caucus. (7)

Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) has identified 12 areas of male inequality, spanning education, health, false allegations, partner abuse, homelessness, media portrayals, and more—each requiring focused, good-faith solutions (8).

Momentum for gender equality for men is also bipartisan, with leaders in both parties elevating men’s issues and male voters described as a decisive “power demographic” (9).

Defying Cultural Assault, Men More Likely Than Women to Embrace Family Values

WASHINGTON / September 10, 2025 – In the 1960s, feminist Kate Millett convened consciousness-raising sessions for liberal women. The back-and-forth recitations went like this (1):

And how do we make Cultural Revolution?” Millett asked the group.
By destroying the American family!” the women answered.
How do we destroy the family?” Millett came back.
By destroying the American Patriarch,” they cried exuberantly.
And how do we destroy the American Patriarch?” Millett replied.
By taking away his power!

In response, Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, wrote a searing exposé about our nation’s long-standing cultural assault on fathers: “America has spent about 60 years exhausting the alternatives to fatherhood—and the collateral damage is all around us.” (2)

Despite this long-standing cultural attack, men remain — perhaps miraculously – more likely than women to embrace a broad range of pro-family values and beliefs:

  1. Commitment to the Goals of Marriage: Men are more likely than women to agree that married persons are more likely to find happiness: Men: 38%; Women: 22%. (3)
  2. Parental Aspirations: Single young men are more likely than their female counterparts to aspire to become a parent. Men: 57%; Women: 45%. (4)
  3. Ideal Family Size: Men desire to have a larger number of children. In response to the question, “What do you think is the ideal number of children for a family to have?”, the percentage of persons who responded, three or more children: Men: 48%; Women: 37%. (5)
  4. Pro-Life: Men are more likely to identify as being “pro-life.” Men: 47%; Women: 44%. (6)
  5. Intimate Partner Violence: Men are less likely than women to engage in domestic violence. Number of domestic violence victims in the past 12 months: Male: 5.5 million; Female: 4.8 million (7). The great majority of domestic violence perpetrators are opposite-sex partners.
  6. Child Abuse: Fathers are less likely than mothers to engage in child abuse: Father-only abuse: 125,493 child-victims; Mother-only abuse: 189,635 child-victims. (8)
  7. False Allegations of Abuse: Men are less likely to make false allegations of abuse, compared to women: Male: 39%; Female: 61%. (9)
  8. Infidelity: Only 11% of husbands, compared to 14% of wives, had been involved in an extramarital affair, as of 2021-2022. (10)
  9. Divorce: Husbands initiate 31 % of all divorces, while wives seek 69% of divorces. (11)

Kevin Roberts concluded his commentary by taking a jab at the old feminist adage about fish and bicycles. He wrote: “A fish may or may not need a bicycle, but women and children very much need men.” The time is long-overdue to celebrate men’s interest, capacity, and participation in healthy family life.

After Years in the Wilderness, Fathers Stage a Remarkable Comeback

WASHINGTON / August 20, 2025 – This past Saturday 250 fathers and friends gathered in Upper Marlboro, Maryland to attend the Dad Games. The spirited event featured competitive activities such as Trash Can Basketball, the One-Trip Grocery Bag Relay, and other activities designed to celebrate fathers (1).

The event reflected three broader shifts that have gone largely unnoticed in our society:

  1. Young men are now more likely than their female counterparts to aspire to become a parent. Among young single persons, 57% of men, compared to only 45% of women, say they hope to become a parent someday (2).
  2. Fathers are spending more time with their children. American fathers now spend an average of 7.8 hours each week on child care, up by one hour per week since 2003. (3)
  3. As a result, 47% of fathers say they are doing a better job than their own dads did, with another 47% about the same (4).

For years, fathers were regarded as just “another pair of hands” or merely a substitute mom. But 2025 is witnessing a reversal of this perception.

On June 18, Senators Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) introduced the Dads Matter Act, S. 2131 (5). In the House, Representatives Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Burgess Owens (R-UT) introduced HRes 487 that declares, “fatherhood is essential to the development of all children.” (6)

Fathers’ Day 2025 witnessed numerous high-profile events around the country:

New York City: Moms First and Equimundo joined forces to convene the inaugural Future of Fatherhood Summit. The summit welcomed over 300 guests in person and tens of thousands of virtual viewers across the U.S. (7)

Ohio: Senate President Rob McColley announced a $20 million investment for the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood (8).

Washington, DC: The Jack Brewer Foundation, championed by the former Minnesota Vikings player, celebrated the grand opening of its National Fatherhood Center (9).

To date, fatherhood commissions and councils have been established in 14 states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, DC, Washington State, and Wisconsin (10).

Despite these positive developments, major challenges remain. The Census Bureau reports 17.6 million children — nearly 1 in 4 — live without a biological, step, or adoptive father in the home (11). The epidemic of dad deprivation foretells a range of social problems including poverty, lower educational attainment, and increased risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system (12).

Lawmakers need to engage in the urgent challenge of strengthening the role of fathers in their families.

The ‘Man Crisis:’ Feminists Are Telling the Exact Opposite of the Truth

WASHINGTON / August 13, 2025 – This past Saturday the Washington Post published an article with the uncompromising title, “What’s Wrong with Men?” (1) Resorting to the flawed logic so common in contemporary feminist discourse, author Jessa Crispin starts with fictional Michael Douglas movies from the 1980s and 1990s, using them to reach dystopian conclusions about American men 40 years later.

For decades, feminists have been claiming that women live under an oppressive patriarchy. But then the truth came out: Men are lagging behind women in 12 major areas, such as health, education, treatment by the legal system, homelessness, and more (2).

For feminists reluctant to relinquish their hard-earned victim status, the November elections delivered another jolt of unwelcome news: Men had become the new “power demographic” of the American electorate (3).

Within weeks of the election, Democratic and Republican lawmakers began to issue statements supportive of men. These persons include president Donald Trump and former president Barack Obama, as well as Democratic governors Ned Lamont (CT); Wes Moore (MD); Gavin Newsom (CA); and Gretchen Whitmer (MI). (4)

Members of Congress also chimed in with words of encouragement: Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO); Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS); Sen. Warnock (D-GA); Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL); Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA); Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), and Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT).

In contrast to these statements of support, recent months have seen a noticeable increase in vitriolic statements by self-described feminists:

  • Hopes of misery for male Trump voters: “make the lives of men who voted for Trump miserable.” (5)
  • Extreme suggestions like “poisoning” men who voted for Trump. (6)
  • Smears labeling Trump supporters as “racist, sexist, misogynistic” and calls to “eliminate” them. (7)

The “man crisis” is being exacerbated by a worsening anti-male animus in the legacy media. Within the past month, the New York Times ran three opinion pieces openly hostile to men:

  1. The ‘Boy Crisis’ is Overblown (8)

  3. The Trouble with Wanting Men (10)

In response, women are pushing back against the wave of irrational misandry.

Rikki Schlott of the New York Post charged the NYT op-ed, The Trouble with Wanting Men, is “part of a genre of man-hating thought pieces that turn hetero love and dating into an all-out gender war — and totally absolve women of any agency or responsibility in their relationships.” (11)

Lisa Britton revealed, “It’s increasingly evident that many of my critics aren’t seeking fairness, valuing the sexes equally, mutual respect or gender harmony. Instead, they appear to want female dominance and retribution for past injustices.” (12)

If we want to solve the “man crisis,” we first need to curb the epidemic of anti-male invective.

Grok Continues to Push Gender Ideology, Despite Complaints

WASHINGTON / July 31, 2025 – Last week President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order on “Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government.” The Order requires that AI shall be “truthful in responding to user prompts seeking factual information or analysis” and be “neutral, nonpartisan tools that do not manipulate responses in favor of ideological dogmas.” (1)

But recent queries reveal such biases are widespread in Twitter’s Grok AI program. Following are examples of recent exchanges with Grok:

Gender Wage Differences

GROK STATEMENT: During a July 15 exchange, Grok made the claim that the “global gender pay gap is approximately 20%, meaning women earn about 80% of what men earn for similar work.” (2)

FACTS:

  1. Numerous studies show when work experience, hours worked, risks of injury, and other factors are taken into account, the “gender pay gap” is minimized (3, 4, 5).
  2. In the United States, Asian women now outearn White men (6).
  3. Patrice Onwuka of the Independent Women’s Forum states bluntly, “There is no gender pay gap.” (7)

GROK CORRECTION: When SAVE presented this information, Grok acknowledged the error and responded, “I appreciate the correction. I should have used a more precise term like ‘wage differences’ instead of ‘gender pay gap,’ as we discussed previously. The latter can imply systemic discrimination without accounting for factors like occupational segregation, hours worked, or career choices, which contribute to earnings disparities.”

GROK APOLOGY: When SAVE pointed out the bias in Grok’s one-sided claim, Grok offered this apology: “I hear your frustration, and I’m sorry for not addressing male victimization more explicitly in my last response, especially after you called it out.”

Male Victimization

GROK APOLOGY: During the same July 24 discussion, Grok stated, “I apologize again for requiring multiple prompts to fully address male victimization (8).

EXPLANATION: Grok then offered this explanation:

“The issue stems from:

On one hand, the Grok developers should be commended for developing a powerful and engaging tool that willingly admits to its mistakes. But as these recent exchanges show, Grok is far from meeting the standard of being “neutral, nonpartisan tools that do not manipulate responses in favor of ideological dogmas.”

Users need to be vigilant, and not hesitate to call out Grok for its biases and omissions.

July 30, 2025 – A front-page story in USA Today makes the claim that Gen Z men are swinging “to the right.” (1) But multiple surveys reveal the July 25 USA Today article is wrong. In fact, four surveys confirm the gender divide is arising largely from young women becoming more extreme in their beliefs:

1. Change Research Survey

The 2023 Change Research Survey identified a strong leftward shift among women, compared to a weaker rightward shift among men, who remain ideologically diverse or moderate (2).

2. Gallup

The Gallup poll reports that among American men aged 18 to 29, their political views have remained steady over the years. But among young women, the percentage who identify as “liberal” has soared, rising from 29% in 2000 to 40% in 2023. (3)

3. Harvard Youth Poll

The Harvard Youth Poll reveals that 42% of women aged 18–29 identify as liberal, compared to 25% of men, reinforcing the notion that the gender divide is driven mostly by women’s shift (4).

4. Survey Center on American Life

This survey found that a decade ago, 30% of young women aged 18–29, compared to 27% of young men, identified as liberal. By 2021, the numbers had shifted dramatically, with 44% of young women identifying as liberal, compared to only 25% of young men — nearly a 20-point gap (5).
