Rep. Ilhan Omar Needs to Apologize for Falsehoods About Men
May 7, 2025 / WASHINGTON – Democratic lawmaker Ilhan Omar has claimed, “We should be monitoring, profiling, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men.” (1) Omar made her statement under the pretext that white men are causing a disproportionate share of deaths, a claim that FBI homicide data quickly dispel (2).
And opinion polls reveal that young women — not men — have become radicalized in their political views, embracing a variety of extreme political positions. In contrast, young men have moved slightly to the right in recent years (3).
Omar’s statement is the latest example of claims made by progressive politicians that are not only false, but represent the exact opposite of the truth:
Misogyny vs. Misandry: During the recent presidential campaign, Michelle Obama and other Democrats berated men for their alleged “misogyny” towards women (4). Truth: Anti-male misandry is far more widespread than anti-female misogyny. A recent analysis found that “calls to ‘kill all men’ have become a staple of feminist advocacy.” (5)
Patriarchy: Democrats often allude to the existence of an oppressive “patriarchy” that seeks to eliminate the rights of women. Truth: In 2025, there is no such thing as a “patriarchy.” To the contrary, chivalrous male lawmakers often enact laws that favor women over men, such as the 1994 Violence Against Women Act. The 2010 Affordable Care Act mandates that health insurance plans cover female-specific services like mammograms and cervical cancer screenings. But the ACA does not require any sex-specific services for men, such as prostate cancer screening.
Domestic Violence: Democrats often make statements about male-perpetrated domestic violence, making no mention of the greater problem of female-perpetrated abuse of men. Truth: The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control shows that each year, there are 6.5 million male victims and 5.6 million female victims of physical domestic violence (6).
Columnist Wendy McElroy has characterized young male voters as the “new power demographic.” (7) Indeed, exit polls from the November 5 presidential election confirmed that majorities of married men, men with children, White men, and Latino men pulled the lever in favor of Donald Trump (8).
Afterwards, Democratic governors Wes Moore of Maryland, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Ned Lamont of Connecticut began to make good-faith efforts to reach out and address the broad range of male disadvantage (9).
Unless Democrats wish to continue their spell in the political wilderness, they will need to stop promoting unfair stereotypes of men. And Rep. Omar needs to apologize for her extreme proposal to start “monitoring, profiling, and creating policies to fight the radicalization of white men.”
