AOC Resorts to Demagoguery to Stereotype and Vilify Boys
WASHINGTON / October 23, 2025 – During the 2024 presidential campaign a number of Democrats resorted to false gender stereotypes of men, charging them with ill-defined acts of “misogyny.” Such vitriolic accusations no doubt drove many undecided men into the Republican camp, thereby sealing Donald Trump’s November 5 victory.
Afterwards, Democratic leaders such as James Carville blasted fellow liberals for their over-heated rhetoric. Men were lectured that “‘The future is female, you must always ‘believe the woman is never wrong,’ #MeToo,’” Carville said. “And men are like, ‘S—, do I count? What about my life?’” (1)
Many Democratic leaders paid heed to these criticisms, and former President Obama urged Democrats to pay more attention to the needs of men: “We rightly have tried to invest in girls to make sure that there’s a level playing field, and they’re not barred from opportunities. But we haven’t been as willing, I think, to be intentional about investing in the boys. And that’s been a mistake.” (2)
But on October 15, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared on CNN. In response to a question whether Democrats need to improve their social media messaging, AOC answered with this tirade:
“They [Republicans] are able to radicalize and target and exploit a generation of young boys, in particular, away from healthy masculinity, and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them. And that is why they are resonating online because they are appealing to the most basest [sic] and worst parts of human nature.” (3)
Ocasio-Cortez did not cite any real-life examples or scientific findings to support her claims. Indeed, there is no research that supports such generalizations about young American men.
AOC’s statement is the latest example of political make-believe. Indeed, the truth is the very opposite of AOC’s claim.
In 2019, Gillette opened a new chapter in the Battle of the Sexes with its “We Believe the Best Men Can Be” video (4). Academics, journalists, and many others castigated the negative stereotypes fostered by the video (5). Cultural critic Camile Paglia charged, “There’s no room for anything manly now.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s recent outburst reveals how women have become the new extremists in American society. In May, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters took over the Columbia University library, etched political slogans on the walls, and defaced the building. At the end, 78 protesters were arrested – 60 of them female. (6)
The Gallup poll likewise reports that among women ages 18 to 29, the percentage who identify as “liberal” has soared, rising from 29% in 2000 to 40% in 2023. During the same time, the political views of young American men remained steady (7).
Representative Ocasio-Cortez should apologize for resorting to such divisive and dishonest rhetoric.
