Rein in the ‘VAWA Mafia’

‘VAWA Mafia’ is the term that Violence Against Women Act insiders use to describe their tightly knit coalition. Members of the ‘VAWA Mafia’ share a common ideological belief that domestic violence is the result of patriarchal “power and control,” ignoring the many other causes identified by the Centers for Disease Control.

This group is attempting to control the drafting of the upcoming VAWA reauthorization. It also seeks to influence the public narrative on the domestic violence issue, as occurred in 2012. Experience reveals the ‘VAWA Mafia’ dismisses concerns and criticisms of other stakeholder groups.
