Tyler Shields: Male Victims are No Joke
This is one of the photographs taken recently of television star Heather Morris (Brittany from “Glee”) engaged in mock domestic violence:
The photo, taken by Tyler Shields, shows a black-eyed Morris merrily pressing a hot iron to her partner’s crotch. The photo depicts a getting-what-he-deserves storyline that reinforces deep-seated misconceptions about domestic violence: Men are abusers, and Morris is striking a blow for downtrodden victims.
Now, Shields is planning to auction his photos and make a donation to a project that – you guessed it! –disregards the needs of male victims and female perpetrators of domestic violence. Shields says he plans to donate the proceeds to Glamour magazine’s Tell Somebody campaign, which focuses exclusively on violence perpetrated against women.
We want you to ask Shields, politely, to select a different beneficiary for the proceeds of his auction - one that serves all victims, whether they are female or male, gay or straight. Write to Tyler Shields: info@tylershields.com
Tyler Shields never responded to our request to assure all victims of violence get the help they need.
