Biden on The View – Success!

September 2011:

VP Biden Needs to Tell the Truth about Dating Violence

UPDATE: Success! As a result of our many emails to The View producers, co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked VP Biden to remind teenage girls to not hit their boyfriends to get their attention.

In advance of his September 27 appearance on ABC’s The View, SAVE sent a letter to Vice President Biden, asking him to highlight the fact that teenage girls are more likely than teenage boys to be physically abusive with their dating partners. SAVE also requested VP Biden to emphasize how female abusers need counseling, and male victims deserve help: http://www.saveservices.org/2011/09/save-sends-letter-to-vp-biden-regarding-his-upcoming-appearance-on-the-view/

Unfortunately, Mr. Biden side-stepped the entire issue. And when host Whoopi Goldberg asked him point blank to “remind the women that the way to get a man’s attention is not to hit him?”, Biden abruptly changed the subject.

Is Mr. Biden simply confused about the facts of teenage dating violence? Or is he deliberately distorting the truth?

Call on the Vice President to remove the veil of silence that enshrouds abusive teenage girls and victimized boys. Send an email to Valerie Jarrett, director of the White House Council on Women and Girls: vjarrett@who.eop.gov . Or telephone the White House comment line: 202-456-1111.
