RULEMAKING ON CAMPUS SEXUAL VIOLENCE STARTS TODAY

The first of three negotiated rulemaking sessions on the Violence Against Women Act kicks off at the Education Department today. The department will hear from negotiators on how to incorporate changes from last year’s reauthorization of VAWA into existing campus safety and reporting requirements. The Clery Act stipulates that all colleges and universities must keep and disclose records about crime on or near campus. When the President Barack Obama signed a bill reauthorizing VAWA last March, the bill included the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act. That law amends the Clery Act and gives additional rights to victims of sexual violence on campus. The rulemaking ends April 1. More on the process: http://1.usa.gov/19iF9jh.
