Dallas police say a woman abandoned her 2-year-old son when she showed up at a bar shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday to argue with a man over child support and followed him home.
Dallas police say Diana Salinas, 28, drove to a bar on the 500 block of Gilpin Avenue and began arguing with Oscar Pacheco, 41. The two went outside and police say Salinas kicked Pacheco several times and scratched his face.
The 2-year-old was left in the car.
Pacheco fled the bar to his home in a trailer park, according to a police report. Salinas apparently had been in the bed of Pacheco’s truck. She jumped out after him when he exited, police said. He ran inside. She broke his passenger side rear view mirror, according to a police report.
At some point, police said, Salinas called a friend to pick up her son but when the friend arrived at the bar, the toddler was not inside the car. The friend called 911 and police began searching for the child.
Police found the child at about 8:30 a.m in a nearby apartment with two witnesses. The two told police they saw the child in the car and waited for about 40 minutes for a guardian to show up. They took the toddler home with them when no one showed up, police said.
Salinas was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor charge of family violence assault and abandoning a child, a state jail felony. CPS took custody of the child.
Police said anyone who finds an abandoned child should call 911 immediately.
