Louisville man, ex-officer reach $750K settlement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man has reached a $750,000 settlement with a former police officer who twice arrested him on domestic violence charges but failed to disclose a romantic relationship with the alleged victim.

Michael Delbert Bonzo, a one-time Louisville police officer who now lives in Springfield, agreed on Tuesday to pay the judgment to John Matthew Wooldridge stemming from two arrests in 2006.

As part of the settlement of the federal lawsuit, Bonzo admitted to violating Wooldridge’s rights. Bonzo resigned from the police department in 2007 after an internal police investigation concluded that he lied during a court hearing about having a relationship with the victim.

Wooldridge pleaded guilty in one of the domestic violence cases. Prosecutors in 2007 vacated the conviction based on the internal probe.
