Jury rejects ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit against ex-Padre

…The jury of seven women and five men issued a verdict rejecting Cheri Olvera’s claim that Giles breached an oral contract to provide for her after they broke up in 2008. The jury found both Giles and Olvera committed domestic violence but awarded no damages to either.

The jury did award Giles the return of the $107,000 engagement ring he purchased for their canceled 2007 wedding…

…Olvera sued Giles in November 2008, claiming that Giles abused her and broke an oral contract to provide for her after five years of living together. Giles then countersued in January 2009, saying it was she who committed domestic violence against him.

A juror who gave his name as Charles, 56, said the jury viewed the domestic violence portion of the case as “mutual combat” between two. Both sides’ claims of domestic violence “canceled each other out,” he said…

… The jury voted 12-0 that Giles committed domestic violence against Olvera but also voted 12-0 that he did not cause her harm. The jury also voted 10-2 that Olvera committed domestic violence against Giles but unanimously decided that she did not cause harm to him either…
