ROCHESTER

Police on Saturday arrested Samantha Morrison, 31, of 5 Kirsten Ave., on charges of false reports to police and falsifying physical evidence.

Police said Morrison told officers on Feb. 17 that her boyfriend had sent her a threatening text message. After reviewing the text and interviewing Morrison, officers arrested her boyfriend and charged him with criminal threatening.

But a subsequent investigation revealed the entire thing to be a hoax, police said, one in which Morrison used a program on her cell phone to falsify texts from her boyfriend.

“This program would make it appear that a text was sent from another person but is a program where the user can customize a text’s content and sender information, to make it look like another had sent it,” police said in a statement.

Police said charges against the boyfriend were dropped.
