Hoax: The Continuing Distortions about Intimate Partner Abuse
Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) is pleased to announce an invitational event to commemorate the Super Bowl Hoax and other domestic violence myths. “Hoax: The Continuing Distortions about Intimate Partner Abuse” will feature a series of presentations designed to highlight how domestic violence misrepresentations continue to the present day. The event will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 in Washington, DC.
These distortions have become deeply imbedded in the awareness of the American public, and cause harm to the many offenders and victims of domestic violence who are being denied the services and protections they need.
The invitational event will be held 12:00 – 1:30pm at the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave NE, Washington DC 20002. Attendance is free, and advance registration is required. Email your name, organization, and telephone number to Teri Stoddard: email@example.com .
The Super Bowl Hoax, which occurred in 1993, claimed that more women are victims of domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year. A full account of the Super Bowl Hoax can be seen here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/superbowl.asp
