NNEDV is celebrating its 15th Anniversary! NNEDV has made tremendous strides in the movement to end domestic violence over the past 15 years. To recognize our anniversary, NNEDV is releasing our Highlights in History (“HnH”) on the 15th of each month.
HnH (September 2010): Today is the Domestic Violence Counts Day: our annual national census of domestic violence services. More than 2,000 local domestic violence programs across the country are counting the number of survivors they serve in this one, 24-hour period. The local programs are also keeping count of the number of times they don’t have the staff, bed space, or resources to provide assistance in just one day.
For the past four years, NNEDV has conducted the Domestic Violence Counts: A one-day snapshot of domestic violence services in the United States.
Last year on Sept. 15, domestic violence victim advocates served more than 65,000 survivors and children. On the same day, more than 9,200 requests for services went unmet, largely due to lack of funding. View the counts here: http://nnedv.org/resources/census.html .
